Who We Are Blue Maggie is the acoustic trio of Cheryl Smith Patrick, Richard Patrick and Jean Paul (JP) Gauthier blending Kentucky‑rooted bluegrass with Appalachian folk and Americana influences. Their harmony‑driven sound and traditional instrumentation have shaped the band’s identity from the very beginning accompanied with JP Gaultier with his high energy guitar picking and fiddle playing adding to making people wanna dance, sing along and stay for more.
Our Story Blue Maggie began as a two‑person project, with Richard on upright bass and vocals and Cheryl on mandolin and vocals.
The duo teamed up with Stephenson Paige to record their first album, Heart for the Hills, at River Tracks Studio.
After Stephenson’s untimely passing, Blue Maggie continued forward with a new chapter.
A New Era Multi‑instrumentalist Brent Stapleton joined the band on banjo, guitar, and vocals, contributing to three additional albums:

Performing Across the Region
Blue Maggie has performed throughout:
West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia,
before eventually relocating to Florida.
The band became known as:
“West Virginia’s biggest‑little bluegrass band.”
Today
Now based in Florida, Cheryl and Richard continue to perform, write, and record as Blue Maggie, carrying forward the spirit of Appalachian music with heartfelt vocals, traditional instrumentation, and a sound shaped by decades of experience.
